Today is a sunny, warm 0 degrees in Minnesota. Yes, you heard that right…it’s warm. I only had to put on two pairs of pants and one jacket and one pair of gloves. I’m feeling pretty positive that this winter is coming to an end since the ground hog did not see his shadow. I could not be any happier that the -50 degree weather is outta here! Okay…yes this is sarcasm. But I love to make fun of this situation because most people think the same thing I’m thinking. Why do I live in Minnesota??!
All kidding aside, my mind is always racing a million miles a minute about different topics that I like to talk about and what helps me feel great every day (well, most…I am human). I talk about being happy and grateful with most of my Facebook and bloggers pretty faithfully. I’m a fairly happy person all the time and some of the things that have helped me are the tips below. I hope these tips will help you find the lighter side of some tough situations and bring you to your happy place.
1. My first tip is on set-backs because it happens in some form or another with everyone. Don’t wallow in self-pity. As soon as you face a challenge get busy finding a solution. Don’t let the set-backs affect your mood; instead see each new obstacle you face as an opportunity to make a positive change. Learn to trust your gut instincts – it’s almost always right. My video blog will be about set-backs so stay tuned!
2. Find a career you love: Some statistics show that 80% of people dislike their jobs! No wonder there’s so many unhappy people running around. We spend a great deal of our life working. Choose a career that you enjoy – the extra money of a job you detest isn’t worth it. Make time to enjoy your hobbies and pursue special interests. I’m very grateful that I have a job that does not feel like a job, if you have a passion about something, go out and get it!
3. Stop and smell the roses: Take the time to see the beauty around you. There’s more to life than work. Take time to smell the roses, watch a sunset or sunrise with a loved one, take a walk along the seashore, hike in the woods etc. Learn to live in the present moment and cherish it. Don’t live in the past or the future.
4. Give respect to others: Accept others for who they are as well as where they are in life. Respect them for who they are. Touch them with a kind and generous spirit. Help when you are able, without trying to change the other person. Try to brighten the day of everyone you come into contact with.
5. Be Grateful: Develop an attitude of gratitude. Count your blessings; All of them – even the things that seem very small. Be grateful for your home, your work and most importantly your family and friends. Take the time to tell them that you are happy they are in your life.
6. Honesty is the best policy: Every action and decision you make should be based on honesty. Be honest with yourself and with your loved ones.
7. Last but not least: Most happy people know and understand that they are 100% responsible for their life. They take responsibility for their moods, attitude, thoughts, feelings, actions and words. They are the first to admit when they’ve made a mistake.
Begin today by taking responsibility for your happiness. Work on developing these habits as you own. The more you incorporate the above habits into your daily lifestyle – the happier you will be.
Most important tip: BE TRUE TO YOURSELF.

These are great reminders! When I am struggling with something and can’t seem to shake it from my head I need to share it. Most days I can give it to God, but there are times I need a human, one sitting there in front of me, one with skin! I think we all need each other, for so many things! Thanks for your knowledge and your truth!
Thanks colleen, you are SO right!!
