So this will mark my first of many pregnancy blogs, in hope it will help some of you that are trying or are pregnant. I will share with you that I have been pregnant 4 times now, 1 successful, 1 present and 2 babies that ended in early miscarriages. I know things happen for a reason and those 2 babies were not meant to be fully born, I call them the angel babies. Since finding out I was pregnant with this one, I have cleared away fear of losing this baby, I have not allowed those thoughts to come in and I believe that this little baby will make it. I have heard the heart beat daily (I have a heart rate Doppler…my saving grace), I have seen the baby in two ultrasounds with heart beat and it was moving around and being very active. Which is a good sign.
I share my story because if you have had trouble in the past, don’t allow those thoughts to consume you. Always think positive that things will work out when it’s meant to. Even though it is hard to think that way, I understand. It is hard to lose and then get pregnant again and not look in the toilet to see blood. It is something I still am trying to remove from my thoughts and will continue until this baby is born, and is healthy.
During my blogs I will post about my past week and what different symptoms I have, my diet, my workouts and more importantly what the baby is up to.
My latest baby picture is from today at the ultrasound! So cute already and of course is showing off. 🙂
How far along: 12 weeks 3 days
Symptoms:
Frequent peeing still, I mostly notice at night (this should subside as I progress further into the second trimester, HURRAY!), sleeping this week is tough (Adrianna has been up all night coughing since the weekend), this is a pregnancy I sleep like crap (I slept great when pregnant with Adrianna). Headaches are almost daily but vey random. I’m like a hungry beast ALL.THE.TIME., but I get full quickly. After I eat I look like I should be 6 months pregnant from all the bloating. The nausea has lightened up a bit and now have been able to eat some of my favorite foods and less carb rich foods (toast, crackers, bananas, cereal). I have no cramping and feeling great otherwise. I’m pregnant, so in reality nothing to complain about.
Exercise: Exercising is getting harder and slowing down my workouts (thank goodness for my heart rate monitor watch, I use the VivoFit by Garmin). My heart rate is much faster than before so I have to make sure I keep it below 160 (which is fine for me since I have been working out like this pre-pregnancy). I’m being more mindful that I have a growing baby but also not making it my excuse either. I feel much better when I work out and have been on my normal scheduled workouts since finding out. And, yes, some days are harder than others but I do feel better when I do workout. I also have to say that having monthly chiropractor appointments that have been helping tremendously, with the joints and bone movement in my hips and ribs.
My normal workout regimen during the week looks like this:
M-Full body strength training workouts (my online training program workouts)
T- Cardio day (running lately around 6 miles, slow but doing it)
W- Full body strength training workout (again, my online training workouts)
Th-Cardio Day (run or stair climber at Fitness Evolution)
F-Upper body strength training with cardio mixed in
SA-Lower body strength training with cardio mixed in
SU-Rest day
Dr. Update: Our 12 weeks genetic screening (sequential screening) test showed that our baby s perfectly healthy and is in the clear as of now for Down Syndrome, will know about the other test in a week, but the tech said that the baby looked good and healthy. A lot of mom’s don’t want to know the results and opt not to do the test (just drawing moms blood from her arm, and an extra ultrasound looking at the baby’s neck, spine, head, and etc.). Which is totally fine either way, I’m a control freak so I would like to know so I can be fully educated and prepared if something was to show up and since I’m basically a geriatric pregnant person (35 years or older, ladies), they suggest to do this testing. But again, this is a personal decision for every pregnant person, and I’m never here to judge anyone. Every lady has a right to do what they feel is right for them.
We went over our blood work from my 8 week appointment and everything looked great and right on track: good iron, vitamin d levels, etc.. All healthy! Baby is measuring perfectly for its gestational age, and have another test today!
EXCITING NEWS: We did take the Prenatal Test that measure the relative amount of chromosomes in maternal blood, and includes an option to evaluate the Y-chromosome through which fetal sex can be determined. So we will know in 7-10 day what we will be having, we may wait to open the letter but still exciting!
Belly Bump: I’m starting to show a little bump on my lower tummy where my uterus is. I’m still super bloated but is slowly going away (HURRAY). I haven’t gained anything yet, but things are certainly shifting back faster this time around. It is crazy how my body remembers what it did 4 years ago!
Food aversions: Chocolate I still can’t eat because I feel HORRIBLE after, and also any kinds of nuts, or nut butter. But this week it is slowly getting better so I’m starting to introduce the healthy fats back in my diet.
Cravings: Trying to eat plenty but also stay active. I’ve been way hungrier. Especially breakfast, I eat a piece of fruit normally before working out and then eat my breakfast after the workout. I have been only wanting my FitPro Protein shakes for breakfast so that has been my go-to every day since becoming pregnant. It must be the calcium that my body needs. I have been eating every 2-3 hours.
A typical day is: Fruit (banana, usually), then I work out, FitPro Protein Shake (2 cups spinach, 1 cup berries), lunch is usually leftovers from the last night, snacks have been toast, or 2 hard boiled eggs, a pumpkin protein bars (anything without chocolate), dinner has been homemade tacos or crock-pot stuff (easy since I’m super tired at night) and then at night I have been doing the best I can at night. I haven’t found the great snack that hasn’t left me with night time sickness yet. But I have been eating toast with olive oil butter. I know not the best but otherwise I wake up sick, too.
Miss anything: Hard workouts. My energy. And wine.
Excited for anything: To confirm the baby’s sex. To feel baby moving!
