I love my daughter so much. There isn’t one thing in this world I would not do for her. I will kiss her boo boo’s and wipe their tears. I will help dress her for the day, teach her how to dance, sing songs and show her how to let loose and relax. Yes—I have to tell her to relax and she is only 2. I feed her healthy foods; have plenty of time to play and how to love herself. I will lay with her at night, read her book after book—even though she is just trying to stay up later. We will snuggle and cuddle—and make funny faces at each other. I will protect her and fight for her and give up my life for her. As she grows, I know it will only get harder to keep her inside my cozy little bubble-filled rainbow’s and butterfly’s. Adrianna is two today, I can remember the moment she was born and I still remember the first thing I said or thought (can’t remember I was so delirious) was this: why is she so small and I do not think she was ready to come out yet–and one more thing…that she is beautiful.
I can already feel her wanting her independence and so devised a list of things I want her to know as she begins her journey to be amazing strong female:
1. Enjoy the innocence of your childhood.
In a world full of superficial values, peer pressure, and bullying, as well as a pop culture that pushes materialism and consumerism – you are being leapfrogged through your childhood. There is a constant pressure for you to grow up way too fast. Time is gong too fast already, right??!
2. Being smart is cool.
Never be ashamed of being smart or nerdy, having freckles or glasses, or loving science and math. Smart never goes out of style, it stays with you as you grow, and it will lead you down the most successful paths.
3. Be spiritual.
Find the desire to understand the universe and your place in it. Take the time to notice the earth and all of its beauty. Give thanks to God. Believe in something and believe in yourself to be the best person you can be—not only to yourself but to others.
4. Choose your role models carefully.
Even though you are only 2, I am so glad that right now you have absolutely no idea who Nicki Minaj is. I’m also glad that as of now you think that mommy, daddy, your aunts and uncles and grandparents are the coolest people around—I hope that stays that way.
5. Read something every single day.
From the Goodnight Moon and Elmo Goes Potty to If I Could Keep You Little, reading is exercise for your brain. It expands knowledge and vocabulary- and lets your imagination run wild.
6. Fashion
When it comes to fashion, shorter does not always equal better. Fashion trends come and go and not all of it is fabulous. Half tops and miniskirts are great for an 85 degree day at the beach or if you’re Nicki Minaj, but not for your school’s yearbook photo.
7. Respect Yourself
Please, please, please do not allow yourself to become someone else’s property. Why this is trendy, I will never figure out. Being in a relationship with someone—should be about having each other’s respect—if not this momma will be at his door. Respect yourself so you draw in people that respect you who you really are.
8. Accept yourself for who you are.
You’re one-of-a-kind and that’s what makes you beautiful. Tall, short, big, small, blonde, brunette, redhead, white, brown, blue, pink, yellow – we are all DIFFERENT. That is a GOOD thing.
9. Make your health a priority.
It’s life’s greatest asset. A positive approach to health encompasses physical, mental, social, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Healthy lifestyle choices in your youth will help lay a strong foundation for continued wellness throughout your adult life. Nutrition, exercise, stress management, chiropractic, massages, self-motivation, positiveness, and meditation, as well as a number of other approaches are guaranteed to make a huge impact on your quality of life, health, and happiness.
10. Have confidence in yourself.
A positive self-image assures power, strength, ability, and value. It will enable you to conquer your goals and allow you to fearlessly pursue your biggest dreams. Be fierce Adrianna—your dreams will become a reality.
11. Love with all your heart.
For where there is love there is life. Love is universal and felt by all living things. So strong is the feeling of love that it is said it makes the world go round. Love makes you love yourself and your surroundings.
12. Never be afraid to laugh at yourself.
Laughter is humbling. It inspires and motivates—I want you to act silly and be fun forever. It will make you feel happy and alive.
13. Whenever you need me I will be here.
Wherever you are in life, you can come home. I will be here – always. If you feel lonely or sad and need someone to talk to—I’m here with an open ear and loving heart.
14. Be your feisty-self.
To be honest you are just like your mother. No matter how annoyed or crabby I may be at you when you get in your stubborn fits because I quote you “I DO IT” I need to realize you are just like me and I need to understand. I feel as though you will run the world someday with that attitude and motivation. I admire you for the determination you have as a 2 year old and can only hope you will have that attitude throughout your whole life.
Happy birthday my tiny little peanut, mommy loves you.
